It's becoming Fall and so we are no longer on vacation.  We are back at work and talk is turning to the budget and the end of the year.  How can we -the company-be more profitable. Euphemisms are "nice" ways to say something that is not nice, or at the very least it is a way to hide what you mean in the words.  There is also a double meaning to mixed messages. Mixed messages is when someone says one thing but there actions don't match their words.

You might have heard, life isn't a picnic or as the Germans say, "life isn't a pony park" That is my rough translation.  Is there a way to make work, work for you?  Well, it works if you work it -as any AA sponsor knows.  What is in the kool-aide?  A positive attitude and a can-do spirit.  You've got this.  Work your English and before long, you will be the one they will be running to get when they need someone with a can-do spirit, whose not afraid to speak up or to lead. Your English can help you build your reputation, so that you can lead a cohesive team in English.  Make your English work for you!

Let's Get Technical about Customer Service

2/25/2019

Good customer service can be hard to find.  It can sometimes be challenging to find someone who will take responsibility when things go wrong.  That's why the grammar point passive language is paired with technical English.  The passive is a great way to shift the responsibility from yourself.  Technical English uses passive constructions to neutralise the instructions making them sound less like commands.  Enter in the chat any comments you have about this broad sheet. I'd love to hear from you.

Here are the answers to the passive constructed sentences.  2. are created, 3. is answered, 4. are given, 5.was heard     6. is going to be given, 7. were written, 8. will be brought about.

Were you able to put the coffee making instructions in the right order? Here is mine, 8, 7, 4, 3, 1, 2 , 5, 6.  Do you agree? You can let me know if you have a different order for making coffee.

Did you understand the customer complaint? Here is the missing vocabulary: 1. bought, 2. recognise, 3. support.  4. solutions, 5. manual. 6.obviously.

Did you figure out the two things not to do in customer care.  They are share your day with a caller, or ask the caller "What do you want me to do?"  This last sentence looks deceiving like it could be a polite request but it is not because if the person knew they wouldn't be coming to you for help.

Place the vocabulary words into sentences, they are 2. appropriate, 3 flag, 4. assure, 5. clarify.   I hope you've enjoyed this issue of bauenglish.  Have a great day!
