You and a colleague are speaking in English in your office. Your American, British, or (insert native speaker) colleague is very understanding of your English speaking weaknesses and even applauds your ability to speak English so well, and then he/she continues talking.
However, now you’ve started to stutter. You can’t find words.
The fact that your speaking partner has turned the spotlight on you has sent stress hormones running through your system. Your heart rate has increased, and now your brain is clouded and you are no long thinking clearly.

Your speaking partner continues talking unaware of what has happened. What can you do? Stall for time. Here are ten phrases with appropriate gestures and manners to master that will help you gather your thoughts, calm down quickly and pick up the conversation where your English deserted you.
Similar to superpowers, please use these phrases with caution. They should not be shouted out without thinking, or used as a way to get through a meeting.
